The Examinations of Daniel Gilks< no role >
of Hampstead Watchmaker and
Elizabeth Gilks< no role > Wife of said Daniel
Gilks
< no role > taken before me this 23d. day
of October 1787 .

Who being upon Oath Severally Say and first the said
Daniel Gilks< no role > for himself Says that on Saturday the
6th. day of October Instant the Persons now present
who call themselves Thomas Lane< no role > and Henry Baker< no role >
came to his House and offered the Silver Tankard now
produced to sell which he bought and paid Two Pounds
eight Shillings and ten Pence for the same being ofter
the Rate of four Shillings and three pence per Ounce
That the this Informant particularly enquired of them
in what manner they came by it when they replied
they had found it in a Field near Haverstock Hill and
had Shown it to Mr. Marsh at the Cart and Horses
at Haverstock Hill and to many other persons And that
Mr. Marsh had directed them to come to him as a Person
who knew the metal and the Value it better than
he did And this Informant further says that he verily
believes the said Silver Tankard now produced and which
he then bought of said Baker and Lane to have been
feloniously Stolen And the said Elizabeth Gilks< no role > for
herself Says that on Tuesday the Ninth Instant said
Baker came to the Shop of her Husband and brought
the Silver Tankard now produced and said he wanted
to sell it That Informant asked him where he got it
when he replied he found it in a Ditch nearly where
he found the other That Informant asked said Baker
