November 1786
Who being upon oath saith that last Night about 12 o'Clock
[..] this Informant was returning from Thames Street
to the Green
Man
and I till in Oxford Street
where he lodgesThat in Fleet
Street
his Pocket was picked of his Handkerchief - That between
the hours of eleven and twelve oClock he mentioned to John Doery< no role >
the Landlord
of the Green Man
and still aforesaid, "that he had his
pocket picked of his Handkerchief and was happy to find that
he had lost no more, as he had upwards of one Hundred pounds
about himThat at this time a person now present who calls
himself JohnGewalt< no role >
was present and heard the Conversation
That in about half an hour afterwards, this Informant went to bed
passing thro' the Bedroom of the said GewaltThat Informant
put his Breeches under the Bolster of the Bed in order to secure
them at which time they contained the five ten pound Bank Notes [..]
two twenty pound Bank Notes and seventeen pounds four shillings
and upwards in MoneyThat about three oClock he [..]
awoke hearing a MoiseThat he searched for his Breeches and
found them in the place where he had put themThat about
four o'Clock he again took his Breeches and on searching them
missed his said Notes and MoneyThat he then alarmed the
House and said that he had been robbed and that he suspected
said Gasault
