taken before me this 12th. day of July 1786
Who being upon Oath say, and first the said Sarah Pugh< no role >
says
that in the Evening of the 25th. of June last, she put into a Canvas Bag thirteen
Guineas, and which Bag and Money, She put into a Chest of Drawers
in a middle Room on the first floor of her said Husbands House.
And the said Charles John Pugh< no role >
says that on the following Morning
wanting, to Send for some Colours, he took out said Bag of Money and
gave it to his Wifeand the said Sarah Pugh< no role >
further says that she
took out of said Bag an half Guinea and gave it to a Person
now Present who calls himself Robert Eales< no role >
to fetch Some Colours;
that after this, she took out of said Bag a Guinea and an half
for her use, and then put said Bag of Money into said Drawer
again. And the said Charles John Pugh< no role >
further says that said Eales
returned with said Colours in about a quarter of an hour and
continued at Workthat complaining that the Colours affected him
and that he wanted Some Gin, he gave him a penny to fetch Some,
and he went out for that purpose and returned in about a quarter
of an hourthat after containing at Work some little time, Eales
observed that "Hewanted to gooutto the Necessary", and went
thro' the Room where the Money was, shutting the Door after him, which
he had as occasion to dothat said Eales not returning, this
Informant looked for him but could not find him; and on examining
the Drawer found the Money gone, from which Circumstances, together
with his absenting himself from this Informant's Service ever
Since that Period, he is very sure that the said Eales stole
his said MoneyAnd the said Francis Humpage< no role >
says that last
Night when the Prisoner was in his Custody [..] at the Brown
Bear
in Bow Street
Covent Garden
, he saw him take the Guinea now
produced from out of his Mouth and give it to another Man
