Westminster
in the County of Middlesex
Taken on Oath the 7th. day of May 1785
before me One of His Majesty's Justices of
the Peace
for the City and Liberty of Westmr.
This Informant on his Oath Saith That about
two years ago George Baptist< no role >
acting Grave Digger
of
the Parish of St. James Westminster
aforesaid came to this
Informants House & asked this Informant to go
over the way with him to a public House called the
Castle That this Informant accordingly went with the said
Baptist and there found two persons of the Names
of James Sewell< no role >
andAtkins or Atkinson
and two other Persons whom he
took to be Bearers belonging to the said Parish
That one of the said Persons said to this Informant
"we have got a little Lot of rubbishing old Lead
"whjich we have had an Order from the Gentleman
"(meaning as he supposes the Church wardens of the said Parish) to clear away and
"if you have a mind to buy it you shall have the
"first Offer" That this Informant asked the said
Persons if he might reby on such order having been
given and if he would he perfectly safe in purchasing
the said Leadto which all the said Persons repeatedly
answered and declared that there was not the least danger
in any persons buying it as they had positive Order
