Margaret Baker< no role > Midwife to St. James's Parish Westmr . on her Oath
saith that yesterday between ten and eleven o' Clock in the forenoon, she was
sent for to a Woman in Labour at the three Blue Posts Public House the
corner of Edward Street in the same Parish, when Deponent came to her she
told her she did not want her, she was not in Labour, Deponent said
Circumstances were much against her she either was Delivered or would be
very soon, she said certain Complaints were about her Stomach but she was
better and did not want any BodyDeponent persisted she had been delivered
or would soon, but she insisted she was not with Child and added she had
not known ManDeponent looked about the Room for the Infant but
could find none the strong suspicions that there was oneDeponent then
went down stairs in order to go home but Mrs. Sawyer the Mistress of the
House desired she would not leave the Woman and said We will both go
up together, they went up and pressed her to confess it, said it would come
to light, and told her she was obnoxious to be brought before a Court
of Justice and to be tried for her life, if she did not make a proper Confession
and it be found afterwards, she replied she did not care for thatDeponent
then with Mrs. Sawyer went down Stairs [..]

in the Afternoon after the Child was found and asked her how she
thought to conceal it or how to interr it without the Knowledge of the
World, she said she intended to bury it privately, she was in hopes of
taking it out and Burying it privatelyDeponent saw the Child lying
in a Chair on a white Apron or ClothDeponet says she is of opinion
the Child might have been Born alive if it had had proper help, and that
the marks on the Face of the Child might have been occasioned by the
Woman's delivering herselfsays the Child was come to its full time [..]
