Middlesex to wit

The Information of Benjamin Robins< no role > William Winlaw< no role > ,
Charles Jealous< no role > and Patrick Mc Manus< no role > taken
before me this 28th. Day of July 1784.

Who being on Oath say and first the said Benjamin Robins< no role > says that
he is servant to Major Alexander Mercer< no role > who Lodger at No. 72
in Margaret Street. That on Saturday last about 12 o'Clock this
Informant went out and returned before One when he discovered that
or Mahogany Knife case containing two dozen of Knives, two dozen
of Forks. four table spoons and a marrow spoon had been stolen
in his Absence out of the Parlour. That two table spoons now produced
the property of his said Master and two other table spoons and a
marrow spoon now produced the property of the said William Winlaw
were in the said Knife-case at the time it was stolen as
aforesaid. And the said William Winlaw says that two table
spoons and a marrow spoons now produced and marked W W. are
this Informants property and were entrusted to the said Major
Mercer to use in the ready furnished Lodging. And the said
Charles Jealous< no role > says the between 12 and one o'Clock on Saturday last,
as this Informant and said Patrick Mc. Manus were coming through Sutton
Street Clerkenwell , the observed William Lee< no role > now present standing
at the door of the Maxx and Compasses Alehouse. That the Landlady of said House
purshed the said Lee into her House, when this Informant followed
him, and secured him in company with Richard Rident< no role > now present,
and in Lees Coat pockets found the four spoons and marrow spoon
now produced. And the said Patrick Mc. Manus say that he searched
the said Richard Rident< no role > at this time, and in his breeches pockets found
the two prick lock Keys now produced.
