for felony

Thomas Slop< no role > of Lombard Street London Insurance Broker
and prosecutor of the above prisoner maketh oath that at the last Session
of Gaol Delivery holden for the City of London he preferred an Indictment
against the said prisoner for feloniously personating and assuming the
Name and Character of Edward Stokes< no role > late a Seaman in board the Lively
Harp is order to receive prize Money due to the said Edward Stokes< no role > and their
Deponent with that the trial of such Indictment was at the prisoner
request put off until the present session and this Deponent further saith
the he is informed and believes that the said Edward Stokes< no role > who was personated
is a material Witness in the above prosecution and without close testimony
the Deponent cannot safely proceed to true therein and this Deponent
Saith the Yesterday to [..] the Deponent went to Brompter near Clapham
in the County of Rent in order to fetch the said Edward Stokes< no role > to Tour to gave
evidence or the said trial and saith that the said Edward Stokes< no role > set out to
come to Tour with this Deponent and that on their way upon the Road
at Strood about twenty nine Miles distance the said Edward Stokes< no role > fell
from behind the Chaise in which their Deponent was riding by which means
one of the Wheels of said Chaise passed over his body And he was so much
last thereby that this Deponent left him in the care of Surgeon at Publick
House he being quite unable to proceed on to Tour who promised Deponent
he would send the said Edward Stokes< no role > to London so soon as he should be sufficiently
recovered, but he felt not yet to their Deponent knowledge or belief arrived in Tour
and this Deponent is apprehensive he will not be able to do so before the present
Session in ended.
