THE Informations of Susannah Wood< no role > Widow and Elizabeth Hill< no role > Spinster [..]
doth of the Hamlet of Poplar in the Parish of Saint Dunstan Stepney
otherwise Stebbenheath in the County aforesaid.
Taken this 1st Day of March 1784 before me One
of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and for the said County.

Who being uponOath Saith their Oaths severally and respectively say and first the
said Susannah Wood< no role > for herself Saith that about Eleven of the Clock in the
Forenoon of Friday last she being her Goods at the door (as is after Usual
Custom) for Sale. and that about three OClock of the same day one
Edward Parker< no role > now present came to her and Enquired if she had not
lost a Petticoat; and upon Informants making Search for the same
Missed the Petticoat now here produced which she swears to be he
Property, and which she verily believes was feloniously taken and
Carried away by Benjamin Stevenson< no role > a prisoner now here present buy
refers for further particulars to the Information of the said Elizabeth
still
< no role > hereunder written And further this Informant Saith not:
And the said Elizabeth Hill< no role > for herself saith that about three OClock
of the day last mentioned as she was passing by the Black Horse at Poplar
aforesaid She saw the Prisoner now present who calls himself of Benjamin
Stevenson
< no role > going with somethingwith the petticoat were producedunder his ArmandThat
knowing thereupon to be the property of Informant Susannah Wood< no role > she
went after him and and having over taken him saw Petticoat under has Arm which she knew to her Mr. Wood Property asked him where he got it from to which he
made no reply but asked Informant if it was hers. who Sold him
No. when Informant laid hold of him with Intent to Stop him
whereupon the said Benjamin Stevenson< no role > said to Informant [..] You
Buggering Bitch let me go. and Informant endeavouring to take
the Petticoat from him a quart Copper Pot now here produced fell out
of the same, at which Instant Edward Parker< no role > passing by she desired
him to go to Mr. Woods and ask her if she had not lost a Petticoat
during which Interval the prisoner ran away entd North Street and
from thence into Penny fields Informant following him and calling
out Stop Thief. That the prisoner finding himself closely pursued and
likely to be taken threw the Petticoat into the Garden of Mr Hones and
in about two Minutes after he was Taken by Thomas Parker< no role > now
here present who brought him to the white Horse at Poplar from
whom he was delivered into the Custody of John Finch< no role > the Constable
who secured and brought him before me the said Justice.
