May ye 28th. 1782, I was call'd upon to
examine the Body of a female Child, at
the Rolls Work house. The Appearances were
a Bruise on the Forehead and Nose, and one
on each Side of the Neck: the Navel String
was not tiedand appear'd to have been
torn a [..] nder. There were no Appearances
of Putrefaction on the Child, and the Langs
Swam on being thrown into a Bason of
Water. From the above Circumstance
I have Reason to believe that the Child
was born alive, but it is not evident
that it was kill'd by any external Act of
Violence offer'd to it by the Mother or any
other Person. It might receive the Bruises
in falling from the Mother, when it was born
and the Navel String might be torn a [..]
by that Means, and the Loss of Blood occasion'd
thereby might occasion it's death.

J: Clarke, Sargeon,
Chancery Lane
