In the matter of William Taylors forfeited
Recognizance for not appearing at the
Session held in may last to Give Evidence
agst John Griven for Felony

William Taylor< no role > of Great Alie Street Goodmans Fields in
the County of Middlesex pawn broker maketh Oath that some
time in the Month of May last he was bound by Recognizance
before John Staples< no role > Esquire one of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace for
the County of Middlesex to appear and give Evidence against one
John Griven for Feloniously Stealing a Silver Watch the property
of one Joseph Mall That at the time he this Deponent was so
bound the said Joseph Mall informed and promised this Deponent
that he would call upon or let this Deponent know when he should
go to give his Evidence on the Bill of Indictment he would
prefer against the said John Griven for the said Felony And this
Deponent saith that brusting and believing the said Joseph Mall
would give him Notice when he intended to prefer his Bill of
Indictment against the said John Griven and when it would be
Necessary for him to appear and give Evidence as he had promised
to do and being unacquainted with matters of this Nature (having
never before been bound by Recognizance to give Evidence in any
matters of Felony) And the said Joseph Mall not giving or
causing to be given to him this Deponent any Notice to attend
and give Evidence against the said Joseph Mall for the said Felony
therefore this Deponent did not attend nor did he this Deponent
know or hear anything further of the matter till by Accident he
met the said Joseph Mall who then told him this Deponent
''that it was all over the Bill was not found and that'' he (meaning
him this Deponent) need not trouble himself further ''about it
And Lastly this Deponent saith that he did not know nor was he
informed that it was incumbent on him to apply to have the
Recognizance he had so entered into Discharged until he was
informed thereof by the Letter or Notice hereunto Annexed
