Middlesex to Wit

The Information of Thomas Bates< no role > and William Barret< no role >
taken before me this 10th. day of October 1781

Who being upon Oath say, and first the said Thomas Bates< no role >
says on Wednesday last a person was present who calls herself Elizabeth
North came into this Informants Shop, and said she wanted something
for a Waistcoat That in about five Minutes, after two other
persons now present who call themselves Ann Davis< no role > and Mary Cook< no role >
came in, and asked for brown Linen and some Flannel-That
after some time he sold the said Elizabeth North< no role > half a Yard of
printed Jane and a Yard of Dimothy, and to the said Ann Davis< no role >
and Mary [..] Cook< no role > two Yards of Flannel and half a Yard of
Brown Cotton-Says that he is very sure that when they came
into his Shop he had upwards of twenty Yards of striped Manchester
silk and Cotton, which was lying on the Counter and immediately on their
going away he missed the same; from which he is very sure
that one of the said persons stole the same-And the said William
Barrch, says that he is Servant to the said Thomas Bates< no role > and
was in the Shop when the said Women came in, That the said
Elizabeth North< no role > requested him to shew her some Stuff for a Boys
Waistcoat on which he shewed her about twenty Yards of striped
Manchester and several other pieces of Manchester -That he observed
the other two Women buying something of his said Master and go away
and afterwards [..] the said Elizabeth North< no role > go away & that in about
five Minutes after they were gone he missed the said twenty Yards of
Manchester and doth verily beliveandthat one of them stole the
same
