taken before me one of his Majesty's
Justices of the Peace for the said County
Who being upon Oath Saith that on the Fourteenth
of March last being in distressed Circumstances and
[..] the Sum of three Pounds Eleven Shillings
& three pence being demanded of him by Mr Wood for Taxes
which he was unable to pay. the Person now present who
calls himself John Burton< no role >
at the Chambers of Messr.
Machin & Cutley in Clifford's Inn
offered to Lend this Informant the [..]
Sum of Two Guineas towards the Payment of the same
which he accepted. & Burton asked him for a Note which
he gave him for the said Sum. And this Informant
further saith that last Night he was arrested for the
Payment of the Sum of TwoGuineasPounds and two
Shillings upon the Promisory Note now produced
in the Words & figures following Viz.
March 12th. 1774
Ten Days after Date I Promise to Pay to John
Burton or Order the Sum of Two Pounds two Shillings
for Value recd.

which said Sum this Informant paid but
that
saith that the abovementioned Note and at the Signing
thereof is not the hand Writing of this Informant but
that the same is false forged and Counterfeit
and

and verily believes that the said John
Burton did. Feloniously forge and Counterfeit the
hand Writing of this Informant by Signing Humphrey
Fort at the Bottom of the said Note And that she
and a Person now present who calls himself

. Uttered the said Nots for the said Sum
of Two Pounds and two Shillings knowing the same
To be false forged and Counterfeit and that the said
James Pinnell did at the time & before he delivered up the
said Note to this Informant obliterate and deface
