said James Bryan< no role > was then going to Richmond after the said Spencer
Smith
< no role > (who was also bound in Recognizance with these Deponents to give
Evidence against the said William Beckman< no role > ) and who is a Corporal in the
first Regiment of Foot Guards and was then at Richmond upon Duty And that
these Deponents therefore had no occasion to Attend to give their Evidence against
the said William Beckman untill the next Day Thursday or made use of Words
to that or the like effect whereupon these Deponents returned home And these
Deponents further say that in pursuance of such Information they did not go and
Attend at the said Sessions House in the Old Bailey untill the next Morning
when as these Deponents were going along Westminster with intention to go
and give their Evidence against the said William Beckman as aforesaid they
met the said William Beckman which greatly Surprized these Deponents
who upon inquiring of the said William Beckman were informed by him
that he had been Discharged on the preceeding Day because neither the
prosecutor nor these Deponents appeared against him And these Deponents
Henry Wright< no role > John Saunderson< no role > Lawrence Dunn< no role > and George Whitbrow< no role > severally
say that they have been since informed that they and the prosecutor were called
at the Sessions House in the Old Bailey on the Wednesday afternoon the
first day of the Sessions but that they nor the prosecutor being thereto
Answer the said prisoner was Discharged and these Deponent the said
prosecutors Recognizance ordered to be Estrated for such their Neglect and these
Deponents severally say they do verilly believe that if they had Attended to give
their Evidence against the said William Beckman that the said prosecutor would
not these Deponents having been since informed that the said prosecutor had
received his Watch and other Satisfaction not to Attend and prosecute the said
William Beckman which information these Deponents verify believe to be
true the said prosecutor having Absconded and is now not to be found And
these Deponents further severally say that they did not Neglect to Attend and
give Evidence against the said William Beckman through any favour or
Affection to tuinor for any Reward or the Hope or provide thereof but that such
Neglect was entirely occasioned by the means aforesaid and through no other
reason or Motive whatsoever therefore these Deponents humbly pray that this
Honorable Court will be pleased to Order their said Recognizance to be
Discharged.
