Henry Wright< no role > of Tothilfields in the parish of
Saint Margaret Westminster in the County of Middlesex Victualler
John Saunderson< no role > of Duck Lane in the said parish of Saint Margaret
Westminster Victualler Lawrence Dunn< no role > of Old Pye Street in the said
parish of Saint Margaret Westminster Victualler and George Whitrow< no role > of
Old Pye Street aforesaid in the parish of Saint John the Evangelist
Westminster Victualler Severally Make Oath and say That they were
(with one Jacob Rice< no role > and Spencer Smith< no role > ) on or about the Twenty fourth
day of November last bound by Recognizance in the penal Sum of
Forty pounds each before William Kelynge< no role > Esquire one of his Majesty's
Justices of the peace for the said County of Middlesex upon Condition
that these Deponents and each of them should personally appear
at the General Session of Gaol Delivery of Newgate to be held for
the County of Middlesex and give Evidence against the said William
Beckman for Feloniously assaulting the said Jacob Rice on the King's
Highway putting him in fear and taking from his person a Silver
Watch his property of which offence the said William Becksman then stood
Indicted And this Deponent Henry Wright for himself saith that he
was on Monday the Sixth day of December taken very ill with the Gravel
(a Complaint with which this Deponent is frequently afflicated) and
continued so untill the Wednesday following which being the first day
of the Sessions this Deponent went from home in order to go to the
Sessions House in the Old Bailey to give this Evidence pursuant to
the Condition of his said Recognizance but in this Deponents way
further he was taken so extremely ill with the Gravel that he was
Obliged to return house again and take to his Bed where he continued
so ill untill the Saturday following in so much that he could not
possibly attend to give his Evidence against the said William Beckman
without greatly endangering his Life And these Deponents John
Saunderson Lawrence Dunn and George Whitrow severally say That
on Wednesday the Eighth day of December last being the first day of
the Sessions they met together at the House of the said Deponent
Saunderson and set out from there with intention to go the Sessions
House in the Old Bailey and give Evidence against he said
William Beckman pursuant to the Condition of their said Recognizance
but that on their way they met one James Bryan< no role > (a person whom
those Deponent knew) near Covent Garden who informed then that the
abovenamed Henry Wright was very ill as aforesaid and that he the
