Robert Christie< no role > of Exeter Change in the Strand in the
County of Middlesex Labourer Maketh oath and Saith That on the
Day of Julylast he this Deponent was bound by Recognizance before
Saunders Welch< no role > Esquire one of his Majesty's Justices of the peace for the
said County of Middlesex in the penalty of Forty pounds Upon Condition
that he this Deponent should prosecute the said Peter Welch< no role > at the then
next Session of Gaol Delivery to be holden for the said County of Middlesex
for Feloniously and Burglariously breaking and entering the Dwelling
House ofone Elizabeththis Deponent & Stealing there out at a great Number of printed BooksWitch Widow and Stealing Three Books of the
of the Value of Five pound this Deponents propertyValue of Three Shillings the property of William Drew< no role > ( this Deponents

And this Deponent Saith That on Tuesday the fourteenth
Day of the said Month of July last he did Attend at Hicks Hall in
Saint John Street and did preferr a Bill of Indictment against the
said Peter Welch< no role > for the Felony and Burglary aforesaid and did give
Evidence thereon before the Grand Jury and the said Bill was returned
by them on the Saturday following to be a True Bill And thereupon
this Deponent did Attend at the Sessions House in the Old Bailey on
the said Saturday afternoon and not seeing the said prisoners Name
on the List and being informed by some persons who were standing
at the Door of the said Sessions House that the said prisoners Trial
had been put off until the next Session he immediately went Home,
And Attend again in the September Sessions following on the Wednesday
Thursday Friday and Saturday Mornings and looked at the List every
time and not seeing the said prisoners Name on the List always went
away again about his Business and did Attend all Day on the Monday
and Tuesday following and not seeing the said Peter Welch< no role > 's Name on
the List nor hearing any thinganyof him this Deponent being very
Ignorant not knowing what to do he went home about his Business
And this Deponent Saith That he hath been since informed that the
said Peter Welch< no role > was Discharged on the said Saturday afternoon in the
said July Session the same Day the bill was found for want of this
Deponent Appearance and that this Deponent Recognizance was Ordered to
be Estreated by the Court for such his Neglect And this Deponent Saith
That such his Neglect was not through any favour or Affection to the
said Prisoner or any Reward or the hope or promise thereof but that
such Neglect was occasioned by this Deponents Ignorance he never
