The Information of John Meaden< no role > taken before
me this 21st. day of May 1770

Who being on oath says, that he went this morning about 4 o Clock [..]
to a fire which happened at the House of Mr Greeves a Pawnbroker
in Wych Street , says that when he came there the fire appeared
to be the fore Garret of saidroomHouse, that he went up
into said Garrett and continued there, untill the fire in said
Garrett was put out, says that he could not discover the
cause of said fire or account for it, but believes it was
done on Purpose, says which he was in said Garrett he was
informed that the fire was in another part of said house, says
he went down stairs immediately with a Bucket of Water
in his hand, says he went into back room in the two
Pair of Stairs, and found the Head Cloth and Teaster of a Bed
in said room on fire, that he put it out, and that on his
examining the Head of said Bed, foundCandleGrease on
the Head board, Pillow or Bolster, Blanket, and Quilt; and that
he believes said fire was occasioned by a Candle and Wilfully
done, says he afterwards came down Stairs, and about eight o Clock
thinking every thing safe, was going away, when Mr Greeves
standing at his Door desired him to come with him, he told
him there was a light in his Shop, says that he asked him
for the Key, says that Greeves told him that he had given
the Key to one Bean a Shoemaker, who had the Care of the
Shop, for an Hour, says he broke open said Shop door, at the
request of said Greeves and found on said Shop over his
