Middlesex and
City and Liberty
of Westminster {
to wit

The Information of John Curtis< no role > one of the
Watchmen of the Parish of Saint James in the Liberty
of Westminster Taken before us two of his Majesty's
Justices of the Peace in and for the said Country City
and Liberty

Who being upon Oath Saith that about two of the Clock in the Morning
of the first of this Instant November being then at his Watch Box in
Carnaby street in the above Parish of Saint James and aforesaid Liberty
he heard the Cry of Stop Thief and immediately ran towards the
Place from which the said Cry issued and in going along Carnaby
street he observed at Person running and another Person running
after him who seemed to this Informant to be Pursuing the first
mentioned Person. This Informant crossed the Way and made a
Blow at the Foremost Person Whose name this Informant has
since learn't in Joseph Browne< no role > ) upon which the said Joseph
Browne
< no role > fell down and his Pursuer whose Name is John
Gascoigne
< no role > fill party over him. This Informant and the said
Mr. Gascoign then Collared the said Joseph Browne< no role > and were
Conveying him to the house of Mrs. Winford in Argyll Buildings
but turning the Corner of Argyll Buildings out of Marlborough Street
this Informant observed the said Browne pull something out of his
Right hand Pocket which he threw away and immediately after
took out of the same Pocket a large Clasp Knife with which the said
Joseph Browne< no role > slabbed Mr. Gascoigne several times and cut his
Hat and Coat in Several Places. That the said Mr. Gascoigne then
cried out and said Watchman knock him down for I am Stabbed
and cut all to Pieces. That the said Joseph Browne< no role > made a Push
with his Knife at this Informants Throat upon which this
Informant knocked him down but finding him still refactory
he repeated his blows twice and then secured him and took him
to Mr. Winfords house and was soon after Conveyed to saint James
Round
< no role > house. And this Informant lastly saith that about
two hours after the above Transaction he found two Pick Lock
keys near the Place where Mr. Gascoign received his Wounds
and Which said two Keys he verily he believes was what the said
Joseph Browne< no role > Threw out of his Pocket as aforesaid
