Deponent was rideing by the side of the Coach & Horses wch. he was appointed to grand
when this Depont. heard avoide demand of him Dam ye what do you [..] that Coach
fore. Deponent answered, I am appointed Guard to this Coach & then Deponent saw Make (he
was very near face to face, rather inclining to this Deponents right) who replied damage
I'll guard Ye, & instantly fired a Peice of Arms, & wounded this Deponent in his lower
Arm on his right side, Deponent further says there was a Passenger in the Basket behind
the Coach.

The Evidence Could not sign his Name.

The Surgeon (Mr Cooks) Standing by desired that the Patient might not be fatigured
for that his Arm was very uneasy to him & his Feavour high

William Pentlowe< no role > Keeper of New Prison Clerkenwell being sworn
said that on sd 25th. day of February about 4 of the Clock in the morning this Deponent
was with William Daroil in a Post Chaise & went with him from London thro the
Turnpike at the End of Goswell Street & from thence followed a Stag Coach from
London till he was attacqued by a highway man inhisthe Road going to Highgate
& that upon this Attaque this Deponent fired a Blunderbuss, Then Deponent & Darvil
lighted out of the Post Chaise & walked towards London some time after Darvil
fired at man he took for the Highway man who hadtoAttaqued the Post Chaise
but Darvil at that Time was 50 Yards distance from this Deponent soon
after this Depont. heard a View (Why dont you come forward) and Reply
was made Iam Wounded.

This Account was given before It was known that Pentlow was in
Custody by the Power of a Bench Warrant.

Edward Thorn< no role > of Butcher hall Lane Dyer on his Oath says that
since the sd 25th day of February & the Death of John Lee< no role > this Deponent had
opportunity of Seeing William Darvill< no role > at the House of John Fielding< no role > Esqr . & there
charged him with Shooting at & wounding two persons on the Highway One [..]
on Hors back by the side of the Horses drawing the Leeds Stage Coach as a
Guard; The other a Passenger in the Baskett behind these Stage Coach. And He
Darvil replyed, & owned that he did. shoot with a Horse Pistol loaded with a brave of
Balls And Deponent further says that John Lee< no role > one of the persons wounded on sd
25th. day of February who was a Passenger in the Baskett behind sd Stage Coach
dyed afterwards, that is some time in the Same day of the wound reced.
