Continued Tuesday Novr. 29th. 1796
Copy of a Letter transmitted to him by Mr Janson one of
the Tenants of this Hospital from his undertenant Mr
Hunter requesting that Mr Janson would have Mr Hunter's
House immediately surveyed by a proper person as he understood
from Mr Wright there was some danger of its falling and
the Committee resolved that the Surveyor should be informed
they were of Opinion that the Lessee is bound to support maintain
and keep in repair the Premises as well in the Principals as
in the foundations thereof or otherwise agreeably to the
Covenant in his Lease.
The Minutes of the Prison Committee of the following days
were read and Confirmed whereby it appeared
Wednesday July 13th
That the Committee had ordered that John Gearing< no role >
should
be continued in his place of Superintendant of the Prisons
till the next Committee
That the Surveyor should give directions for putting Locks
upon the doors of the Solitary Cells in the Women's Prison
and that both Prisons should be scraped and him whitened
under his direction
And had resolved that the Chaplain should be desired to
recommend such Objects as he shall think deserving of being
continued in the house after the expiration of their Commitment
and having some provision made for them and that the
Committee would take such Measures as the particular
Occasion should require
Wednesday Novr 9th
That in consequence of an Application made to the Committee
by Mr Thomas Poynder< no role >
that part of the Money agreed to be
paid him under his Contract for building
a New Prison
might
be then advanced and the Surveyor having Certified that the
Building was covered in
