in the words and Figures Following In Pursuance of an Order
of Court bearing date the 16th Day of April Instant Whereby it was Ordered the that it
should be referred to the House Committee to consider what are and ought
to be the Duty salary and Perquisites of the Steward of Bridewell Hospital
we have proceed to inquire into the several Mallers above referred to us and
do find that the following Rules and Orders have been made and are non
subsisting relating to his Duty and office (that is to Say)

To wait on new Governors with Staves and acquaint them with
their Election
To Collect all the Rents and Annuities payable to this Hospital
To provided and deliver our the Diet daily for the Prisoners
To direct the workman to do such Repairs as Ordered by the Committee
To direct the such Repairs as by accidents or decay may become immediatly
and absolutely necessary to be done and all others of small charge and expence
not exceeding forty Shillings
To Examine the Workman and Tradesmens Bills and see that they be
right and pay them as the Committee directs
To attend all Courts and Committees of this Hospital, to be ready to be called
in as occasion shall happen and to Observe such directions as he shall receive
from Time to Time
That he shall take care when any Houses are Let by this Hospital that
the same be Property insured by the Tenants in the name of the Hospital
and the
Policies lodged in the Clerks office
And It appears to this Committee that the said Rules and Orders are
in several respects defective and that the following Rules and Orders Should be
Substituted in their Place
To wait on new Governors with Staves and Acquaint then with this
Election
To Collect the Rents and Annuities payable to this Hospital half yearly
which amount to about Four Thousand pounds per annum
To Keep a regular Cash Book in which shall be entered all sums of Money
received and paid by him on account of this Hospital which shall be regularly
Ballanced every Month and laid before the House Committee at each of their Meetings
