Upon reading the humble petition of John Locke< no role > setting forthThat he
became Tenant to the Govr. of a House in Holborn at Michas 1707. at
£30 P Ann with Taxes to be allowed him & continued so till Michas 1728
from which time the Govrs. came to a New Agreement whereby year Petr.
agreed to continue Tenant in the said House from Midsr. 1728. for 21 years
at the Rent of £25 clear of TaxesThat the Petr. by reason of
great Losses in the year 1720. & since by Trade became a Bankrupt about
12th. May 1741 & at Midsr. following there was an Arrear of £33..2..- [..]
for rent which has since been paid by the Assignees And the Petr.
remained indebted to the Govrs. at Christmas 1742. £21..6& no more
which with £6..5..- for one Quarter to Laday last is all that remains
due from the Petr. And there has been paid by the Petr. on his first
Contract for 20 years & ¾ from Michas 1707. to Midsr . 1728 £622..10..-
including Taxes and by the Petr. & the said Assignees exclusive of Taxes
for 13 years & ½ from Midsr. 1728 to Xmas. 1741 £337..10..- & in part of
the year 1742. £3..14..- so that the Petr. has paid for Rent £963..14..-
in the wholeThat besides the Land & other rates & Taxes from
Midsr. 1728 as aforesaid amounting to £123..15..6 the Petr. has been at
great expences in keeping the premes in repair & in lasting Improvements
particularly the Petr. has built a large Vault under the Street before
the front of the House & secured the foundation thereof which was very
much decayed all which the Petr. beleives have cost him near £200.- -
but the Petr. upon the most diligent search cannot find all the Bills
and receipts for the same & those he hath found amount to £140..15..3
the particulars whereof & of said Taxes & Rates are mentioned in a paper
annextThat in regard the Petr. hath not at any former time
applyed to the Govrs. nor had any allowance towards the repairs &
Improvements other than as aboveprayed the Govrs. to give him
such releif in the premes as to them should seem meetIt is Ordered
that the said Petition be referred to the Comittee of this House to
consider thereof & make their a port thereon to the Court.

Upon reading a Report from the Comee of this House bearing date
the 31st of March last under the hands of Edward Holloway< no role > Esqr . Trear
Dr. Richard Rawlinson< no role > , Mr Gilbert Malcher< no role > , Mr. Thomas Morris< no role > , Mr.
Robert Hanshaw< no role > & Walter Pryse< no role > Esqr . as follows Vizt.In pursuance
of an Order of Court the 25th. instant This Comee have considered of
what Equivalent shall be given to the Officers and Servants in lien of
Fees and are of Opinion that £24. P Ann will be an Equivalent for
the Fees that were formerly taken from the Prisoners on their discharge
& that the same should be divided Quarterly as follows Vizt.

to comence from Michas 1741 And that the £12. paid by Order of Court
the 13th. of May 1742. be accounted as part thereofAnd it is

having duly weighed & considered the said Report doth confirm the same.
