of Mr. John Humphrys< no role > a Grocer in Newgate Street for being a loose
disorderly person & on suspicion of pilferring several parcells of
Grocery Wares out of his house.

John Mathews< no role > Constable & William Hockham< no role > for being a loose disorderly person
and Comon Night Walker greatly abusing the said Constable in the
Execution of his Office.

At this Court the Charge was read to Mr. Robert Barber< no role > as one of the
Governors of these Hospitalls.

Beadles Gros ½ yr. Midsr.

Upon reading the humble petition of the four Beadles of this Hospital for their
usual Gratuitys of Forty Shilings a peice in respect of the half Year ending
at Midsumer last for that their Salarys are but smallIt is Ordered
that the Clerk of their Hospitals do give and pay unto them Forty Shillings
a peice to be allowed him in his next Account.

Basketmendo


Upon reading the humble petition of the three Beadles or Basketmen of the
Hospital of Bethlem for their usual Gratuitys of Twenty Shillings a piece
in respect of the half year ending at Midsumer last for that their Salary
are but smallIt is Ordered that the Clerk of these Hospitals do give
and pay unto them Twenty Shillings a piece to be allowed him in his next
Account.

Upon reading the humble petition of Thomas Smith< no role > Weaver setting forth
That he severed his Apprenticeship in this Hospital to Mr. John Smith< no role > late
one of the Artsmaster s by Indre dated the 11th. of July 1732 and by an
Order of Court the 4th. of Decr. 1740 he was on the 22d. day of Jane last
made free of this City and is set up for himself in his said Trade at
Mr. Cripples a Pencilmaker in Bride Lane over against Bridewell Hospital
Great GateAnd the Court being informed that the Comittee of this
House on the 2d. of July instant respected the Bock kept of Apprentices
behaviour and found no complaint against himIt is Ordered That
Mr. John Purces< no role > Mr. Abraham Purcas< no role > & Mr. John Watts< no role > three of the Governors
of these Hospitals or any two of them to desired to enquire whether the said
Thomas Wilson< no role > be set up in his Trade and of his hopefullness therein & to
make their Report to the Court.

Whereas the Court holden the 11th. day of Decr. last being acquainted That Charles Grove< no role >
(Apprentice to Thomas Reay< no role > one of the Artsmaster s of this Hospital) a he had been
sometime at the Hempclocks for reglecting his Masers business & being very disorderly
in the family Was very careless & une [..] coat at this Confinement & not likely to be
reclaimat if he staid in England And his father desiring he might be sent to North
Carolina where he had a near Relation in very good Circumstances The Court did
desire Mr. President & Mr. Trear to send the Said Charles Grove< no role > to Carolina or some
other part of America at the request of his father & by the own consent And that
such Charges as The President & Trear Should think necessary for that purpose
should be paid be the Steward of this Hospital to be allowed him in his Account
Mr. President acquainted this Court it has so happen'd that no Ship has Smith
from London for North Carolins since December last & be the said Charles Groves< no role > has
from that time lived with his father who is a Waiting Master & a Freeman of London
& says he is in hopes from the late behaviour of his said Son Heshell be all to reclaim
him & bring him into business here if the Court will please to order that the money
intended for the Charges of his Voyage may be laid out in Cloaths which he very much
usuals & which his father is unable to Provide for him & him that he may be turned one to
his father to serve the remainder of the time of his Apprenticeship Whereupon It is
Ordered that the Steward, if this Hospital do pay for such Cloathing as Mr. President
shall direct to be provided for the said Charles Groves< no role > & that he to be turned over to his
father.
