Upon reading a Report from the Comittee of Bethlem Hospital bearing date &
27th. of February last under the hands of Edward Holloway< no role > Esqr Treasr Mr.
Richard Skinner< no role > Mr. Peter Roberts< no role > Mr. Samuel Bridgeman< no role > & Mr. James Keys< no role > and
in the words & figures following ViztWhereas an Anonymous Letter without
date was sent by the Penny post to Mr. President which to received the 14 Janry
last the three first Paragraphs whereof are as follows Vizt.

1st.


The Extorting money (Thos. but a Trifle) from the poor patients friend when they only
come to bring clean or taken away foul Linnen from them in Bethlem

2d


The Holliday behaviour in that Hospital a Nuisance to the Inhabitants and a
scandal to Passingers.

3d.


A Prohibition for the future against the large Quantitys of Strong Liquer carinal
in daily which gives great offence to all who observe it

And whereas by an order of Court the 17th. instant the said three Paragraphs we
referred to this Comittee to examine into the facts therein mentioned & report their
Opinion thereon to the CourtThis Comittee have examined into the same & do
findAs to the 1st. That a penny only is demanded of & paid by every friend
of the patients & the strictest enquiry amongst all the servants we do not find this
any more is demanded of or paid by any person who come to see a patient
As to the 2d. We find that on Holliday times great number of people resort to his
Hospital & in order to prevent distarbances the porter of the Hospital is an ann
made a Constable to keep the peace who with the Assistance of the other servt
always attends to present disorders & we do not hear that any complaint to
over been made by any of the Neighbours or other concerning this matter
And as to the sd. We find the Surgeon has frequently strong stale Beer bought
into the Hospital to made polhres for the patients & of times a Gallon in a
day & some of the patients are allowed by their friends half a pint & others a
pint of Strong beer a day which the Doctor thinks is of great service to on
But we do not find that the servants or any of the patients are suffered
to drink to ExcessAnd upon the whole We are of Opinion There is no as
Ground for the said representations in the said Letter And his Ordered that
this be reported to the next Cout This Court having duly weight and
considered of the said Report doth confirm the same.

Upon reading a Report from the Monthly Comittee of Bethlem Hospital being date the
6th. of March instant under the hands of Edward Holloway< no role > Esqr Trear Mr.
William Hide< no role > , Mr Thomas Testell< no role > Mr. George Dance< no role > This name instance is in set 4335. & Mr Robert Alsop< no role > in
the words & figures following ViztIn Pursuance of an Order of the Court
of the 17th. Febry last whereby it is referred to this Committee to receive proposals
for building an Infirmary for sick patients. Proposalls have been made
before the Comittee by the following persons to do the same in Work in a Likes
manner according to the Plan left with the Steward of the said Hospital for
the following repective Sums each Proposer being twice called in Vizt.

If the ground to be day up for the foundation shall not be carted away but be small
upon the Spot each of them proposes to abate Eighteen pennce Pr land for so many
Gabrieal Yards as shall be so day & levelledIt is Ordered that this be report
to the next CourtThis Court having duly weighed & considered of the said
Report Doth Order that it be referred to the grand Comittee of Bethlem Hospital
to agree for the building the Infirmary & to report to the Court
