Upon reading a Report from the Comee of this house under the hands of
John Tayler< no role > Esqr . Trear , Mr William Lee< no role > , Mr Christr. Bateman< no role > John Cottle< no role >
Esqr . and Marmaduke Alington< no role > Esqr . bearing date the 12th. day of Decemr.
Last was read as followsvizt.This Comee haveing formerly reced
Several Proposals for the Tenements and Ground in Brewers Lane and Old
Gravel Lane in Wapping belonging to this Hospital lately held by Dorothy
Haddock
< no role > and John Delean< no role > under two Several Leases from the Governor s of
this hospital which expired at Lady day 1715 extending East and West
from old Gravel Lane to a peice of Ground belonging to this hospital in
Cinnamon Lane in the Occupacon of sr Gregory Page< no role > Barrt . his under tenants
or assignes and North and South from the Comon Sewer to Brewers Lane &
Cinnamon Lane and haveing this day reced the following Proposals for the
same Premisses vizt.Charles Maddox< no role > Citizen and Painter Stainer of
London Proposed to take a Lease for 51 yeares to Comence from Xmas
next at the yearly Rent of Twenty Pounds and to pay £200. fyne and to
be obliged to rebuild three of ye Tenements in old Gravel Lane within three
years and to repair the restWilliam Ridley< no role > of old Gravel Lane Baker
proposed to take a Lease for 50 years at £20. P Annum Rent and to pay £180
fyne and to rebuild Such houses as will require it and to repair the rest
William Burch< no role > Citizen & Frame work knitter of London Proposed
to take a Lease for 51 years at £12 P Annu Rent and to pay £220 fyne
and within Six years to rebuild three of ye Tenements which most require it
and repair ye restAnd they being Severally called in agenMr Maddox
Said he had bid the atmost he would give but would from time to time insure
the premisses from five and assign over the Policys for the benefitt of the hospital
haveing an exception from fire inserted in his LeaseMr Ridley offered
to make his fyne £200& Mr Burch to make his fyne £225And
this Comee haveing considered the Several Proposals and haveing viewed the
Premisses and found the same would want great Repaires are of Opinion to accept
the Proposals of the said Charles Maddox< no role > upon which he gave a Guiney to the
Poors Box all which nevertheless is Submitted to the Judgment of ye Court
This Court doth Confirm the said Report and Order that a Lease be
made to him accordingly.
