Jane Sawyer, alias Holloway proceedingsdefend , and Jane Boreman, alias Pope proceedingsdefend , of the Parish of Alhallows Staining , were indicted for privately stealing 6 Pair of Stockings, value 20 s. from Robert Peake proceedingsvictim , on the 10th of February last. The Prosecutor's Wife swore that the Prisoners came together to cheapen stockings, and having been shew'd several, at last bought one Pair; but she suspecting them, pursu'd and took them, with part of the Goods upon Sawyer. The Prisoners made some Offers at a Defence and Sawyer had some Witnesses, who said that she was an industrious Woman, and work'd at Ribbon-weaving ; Boreman also produc'd some to her Reputation: Sawyer was found guilty to the Value of 4 s. 10 d. and Boreman acquitted .
