| Examination Text | The Examination of Mary Poole singlewoman aged 26 years and upwards lodging at the house known by the sign of the Blew Balll let out in tenements in Exeter Street in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this 24th Day of December 1748. This Examinant upon her oath saith she never was married bound apprentice kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mrs Chivers at the sign of the Blew Balll in Exeter Street in the Parish aforesaid for the space of three years at the yearly wages of 5 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same 12 months ago and never was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together, And this Examinant upon her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that John Buckley who is a Ticket Porter and applies at the Middle Temple Gate in Fleet Street London had carnal knowledge of her body about the beginning of the month of June last at Mrs Peart's house known by the sign of the Three black Jacks in Ratcliff Highway in the Parish of St. Paul Shadwell in the County of Middlesex in a room of the said house up two pair of stairs forwards in and upon a bed of there, where he continued all night and several times afterwards in the night and then again at a house next door to the Horse Shoe house in Fleet Street London in a room of the said house of three pair of stairs backwards in and upon a bed there and several times afterwards in the daytime at the same place for about 12 days out of which time he late 2 nights all night with this Examinant at which or one which times he the said John Buckley did beget on her body the said child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant off, and that he the said John Buckley is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
