Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Pendrell singlewoman in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this 24th Day of April 1752. This Examinant on her oath says that she is 24 years of age and never was married, and that she was on the 22nd Day of March last delivered in the workhouse aforesaid of a Male bastard child (since christened Francis) yet living and become chargeable to the Parish aforesaid, and that Francis Burford a journeyman Baker lately lodging at Mr Lester's the Robin Hood Ale House in Piccadilly had carnal knowledge of her body the latter end of the month of May last upon a bed in a room up one pair of stairs backwards in the house belonging to Mrs Harris, a Baker in Cecil Street and several times afterwards upon the floor in the fore Kitchen at the said Mrs Harris's house aforesaid at which or one which times he the said Francis Burford did beget on her body the said Male bastard Child, and that he the said Francis Burford is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Benjamin Cox, James Fraser.
