Examination TextMichael Merrit aged 51 years lodging at Mr Cornish's in Whitehall Yard in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields upon his oath saith that he is a Picture Frame Maker by trade and was bound an apprentice by an indenture for seven years to Nicholas Hardy a Picture Frame Maker in Black Boy Alley in Long Acre in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields and there served all his time out which expired 28 years ago, that he never kept house rented 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor hath been a yearly hired servant since, that he was married his present wife Jane at the Fleet upwards of 13 years ago. Sworn the ninth day of July 1757 before Benjamin Cox.
