Examination Text | The Examination of Elizabeth Debney in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this seventh Day of January 1763. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 23 years of age, that she never was married, that she was on the eighth day of December last delivered in the workhouse aforesaid of a Male bastard child (since christened Henry) yet living and become chargeable to the Parish aforesaid, and that John Kane a Carpenter late at Mr Thornton's, a Taylor by the ferry at Chelsea, did beget on her body the said Male bastard child and that he the said John Kane is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
