Examination TextElizabeth Powell aged about 25 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St Michael in Cornhill London upon her oath saith that she never was married nor bound an apprentice, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Hart a Haberdasher the corner of Theobalds Court in the Strand in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields for the space of one whole year at the yearly wages of 5 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same last May, that she hath not kept house rented 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes since, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that Burrough Butler at his father's a Gardner in Artichoke Yard on Kenington Causeway had carnal knowledge of her body in the month of October last in and upon a bed in a room up three pair of stairs forward at the house of Mr Addis, a Watchmaker in Birchin Lane London (where she and the said Burrough Butler were servants) and several times afterwards at the same place at which one of which times he the said Burrough Butler did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant off, and that he the said Burrough Butler is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the 15th Day of April 1765 before Peter plank.
