Examination TextThe Examination of Mary Barber in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this 25th day of February 1766. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 27 years of age, that she never was married, that she was on 29th day of January last delivered in the workhouse aforesaid of a Male bastard child (since christened William) yet living and is become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that John Cole a Smith lodging two doors from the Two Blue Pools in Peter Street Westminster did beget on her body the said Male bastard child, and that he the said John Cole is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the 25th day of February 1766 before Peter Planck, Thomas Kynaston.
