Examination TextThe Examination of Mary Benbo lodging at a Butchers in Great Earl Street by the Seven Dials taken upon oath this fourth Day of August in the year of our Lord 1767. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 30 years of age, that she never was married, and this Examinant upon her oath further saith that she was on the 24th Day of November which was in the year 1763 delivered at the house of Mr Marlton a Mercer in Panton Street in the Parish aforesaid of a Male bastard child (since christened Joseph) yet living and now in the workhouse of and in the Parish aforesaid, and now passed from the Parish of St Margaret Westminster, and that Joseph Machine a Smith and Farrier who is absconded did beget on her body the said Male bastard child, and that he the said Joseph Machine is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Peter Planck, Thomas Balack.
