Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Davis now servant to Mr Mist the corner of Castle Court in the Strand in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this 12th Day of October in the year 1785. This Examinant on her oath saith that she 17 years of age and upwards, that she never was married nor bound an apprentice, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Arnie an Embroiderer in Castle Court in the Parish aforesaid and there served her said master for the space of 12 months and 10 days all under one hiring at the yearly wages of six Guineas diet and lodging, quitted the same in the month of December last, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is big with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that James Keating lodges at No.7 in Howard Street in the Strand had carnal knowledge of her body the 27th Day of May and the fifth day of June last upon a bed up one pair of stairs backwards at Mr Rutherford's a Staymaker in Howard Street aforesaid at which time or one of which times he the said James Keating did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said James Keating is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
