Examination TextJohn Crispin Rook aged 40 years and upwards lodging at the Sign of the Merry Gardiners in Charles Court in the Strand in the parish of St. Martin in the Fields upon his oath saith that he is a Shoemaker by trade, but never wasbound an apprentice, that he was (while single and unmarried) a yearly hired servant as a Clicker to Mr Clement a Shoemaker the corner of Old Round Court in the Strand in the Parish aforesaid for the space of one year and an half all under one hiring at the yearly wages of 10 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same 22 years ago, that he never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor hath been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, that he was married to his present wife Sarah at the Parish Church of St Andrew in Holborn the 27th Day of July in the year 1765 by whom he hath five children to wit Mary aged about 17 years, that she the said Sarah never was married bound an apprentice nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together, Elizabeth Susannah aged seven years and upwards, Ann Christiana aged five years and upwards, William aged three years and upwards and John aged one year and upwards all now with this Examinant. Sworn the 13th Day of June 1783 before William Hyde. Ann born April 11/78.
