Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Edwards lodging at Mrs Dickson's in Vine Street in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this 31st Day of January in the year 1783. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 23 years of age, that she never was married, that she was born in Jamaica as she hath been informed and verily believes to be true, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mrs Davies at Captain Richardson's in Robert Street in the Adelphi in the Parish aforesaid for the space of near two years all under one hiring at the yearly wages of five pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about seven years ago, that she never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor hath been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, And this Examinant on her oath further saith that she was on the 23rd Day of July in the year 1778 delivered in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields of a Male bastard child (since christened Robert) yet living and is become chargeable to the Parish aforesaid, and that George Williams who is gone to the East Indies did beget on her body the said Male bastard Child, and that he the said George Williams is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the 31st Day of January 1783 before Thomas Bullard, William Hyde.
