Examination TextThe Examination of Sarah Grafton removed by an order of two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace from the Parish of St Margaret within the city and liberty of Westminster to the Parish of St Martin in the Fields in the same liberty taken this [blank] Day of [blank] in the year 1782. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 69 years of age, that she is the widow of Richard Grafton (who died about one year and an half ago) to whom she was married at the Fleet the 28th day of April upwards of 40 years ago, that her said husband was bound an apprentice by an indenture for seven years to his Father Ralph Grafton a Glover and Breeches maker in Church Court in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields and there served his said Master for the space of five years, and then this Examinant's said husband was by his and his said Master's consent assigned over to Mr Gilbert a Breeches maker the corner of James Street in Long Acre in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields and there served the said Mr Gilbert for the space of two years the remainder of the said time term of seven years which expired about [blank] years ago as she this Examinant hath been informed and verily believes to be true, that he this Examinant's said husband never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together after his said apprenticeship to this Examinant's knowledge, nor hath she this Examinant since the death of her said husband.
