Examination TextThe Examination of Mary Floate lodging at Mr Westons in Castle Street near the Kings Mews in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this 13th Day of June 1782. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 30 years of age, that she never was married, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Vigne a Watchmaker opposite Northumberland House in the said Parish for the space of two years all under one hiring at the yearly wages of seven Guineas diet and lodging, quitted the same about one year and an half [sic], that she hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now big with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that John Napp a journeyman to Mr Grigory a Tallow Chandler in Queen Street Bloomsbury had carnal knowledge of her body some time in the month of January last in and upon a bed in a back Garret at the said Mr Grigory's and several times in the same place at one of which times he the said John Napp did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said John Napp is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
