Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Crossland passed as a vagrant from the Parish of Dorking in the County of Surry to the Parish St Martin in the Fields within the liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex taken this [blank] Day of [blank] 1780. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 41 years of age, that she is the wife of James Crossland (now serving in the Sussex Militia), that her said husband was bound an apprentice by an indenture for nine years to Mr Alchin a Staymaker in the Parish of Huddersfield in the West Riding in the County of York and there served his said Master seven years of the said term, and then removed with his said Master to Mr John Morris, Staymaker in Hanover Street in said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and there served his said Master eight weeks and upwards, and then his said Master returned back to Huddersfield aforesaid and left the said James Crossland with Mr Morris in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields where he continued to work with the said Mr Morris about three weeks or more as her said husband hath informed this Examinant, and this Examinant further saith that her said husband hath not done any act whatsoever to gain a settlement since to this Examinant's knowledge, that she was married to her present husband James in Christ Church Manchester in Lancashire about 21 years ago, and that she hath two sons by her said husband to wit Edward and Benjamin both under the age of four years now with this Examinant.
