Examination TextThe Examination of Lydia Simson lodging in Dawson Alley in the Parish of St Martin the Fields taken the 22nd day of November 1775. This examinant on her oath saith that she is 62 years of age and upwards, that she is the widow of William Simson who died about 27 years ago to whom she was married at the Parish Church of St Martin the Fields about 43 years ago, that her said husband was (before his intermarriage to this examinant being single and unmarried) a yearly hired servant in the capacity of groom to the Hon Colonel Negus in the Stable Yard in the Palace of Saint James in the said Parish of St Martin the Fields for the space of two years all under one hiring at the yearly wages of 6 pounds diet and lodging quitted the same service about 44 years ago as she this examinant hath been informed and verily believes, that her said husband never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together afterwards to this examinant's knowledge, that she this examinant hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since the death of the said husband.
