Examination TextThe Examination of Mary Lovelace Singlewoman taken upon Oath this nineteenth Day of March in the year of our Lord 1736 Who upon her Oath saith she is about Twenty Six Years old that she was a Steward to Mr Defouvie in Castle Street by the Meuse whom she served about eight Days and from thence came into the Workhouse of the Parish of St Martin in the Fields Saith she never was marryed never kept House rented ten pounds by the year paid or any parish Taxes that she was a yearly hired Servant to Mr Christopher Seaton in Suffolk Street in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid whom she served there two years had five Pounds by the year Wages Diet & Lodging and left that Service eight Weeks ago And further upon her voluntary Oath Saith that she is now great with child which is or are likely to be born a Bastard or Bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields and that one Thomas Seaton who now lives at a Linnen Draper's Shop on the North Side of Fleet Street London ( which Shop she hath heard and beleives he is now master of ) had sometimein or about the month of July last the carnal Knowledge of her Body in her lodging Room being the middle Garret in the House of the said Mr Christopher Seaton in Suffolk Street aforesaid with whom she then lived a Servant and several times afterwards at which or one of which Times he begot her with Child of the Child or Children she now goeth with and is pregnant of and that he the said Thomas Seaton is the true and only ffather there of and no man else Sworn the Day and Year abovewritten Before me Val: Hilder The mark of Mary Lovelace
