Examination TextThe Examination of Anne Charles Singlewoman taken upon Oath this Day of in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred & Thirty five Who Saith That she is about Twenty one Years of Age was never an Apprentice never married was born in Dirty Lane Long Acre in the Parish of St Martin in the ffields in the Liberty of Westminster where her ffather Robert Charles then lodged who was Bricklayer and then kept House in Cross Lane Long Acre aforesaid was a Servant to her Aunt Martha Partridge a House keeper in Long Acre had Three Pounds by the Year Wages Diet and Lodging left that Service about three Quarters of a Year ago and never kept House rented ten Pounds by the year or paid any Parish Taxes since And further onher voluntary Oath Saith That she is now with Child and that the same is likely to be born a Bastard or Bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of Saint Martin in the Fields and That one William Pearce a Hackney Coachman lately working for Mrs Colley in the Coal Yard Drury Lane had the carnal knowledge of her Body on on Whitsun Monday was Twelvemonth last and several Times since (they living together as Man and Wife in Kings Court in Russell Street and at Mrs Belchers in Hart Street Covent Garden) at one which times he did beget on her Body the Child or Children she now goeth with and is pregnant of and that he and no Man else is the true & real ffather thereof Sworn the Day and Year abovewritten before Past fr Cov Gard In the W H
