Examination TextThe Examination of Frances Carter singlewoman taken upon oath this 29th day of January in the year of our Lord 1739. Who upon her voluntary oath saith that she is about 20 years old, that she never was married, that on Monday the 22nd Day of January instant she was delivered of a Male bastard child (since christened John) in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields within the liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex yet living and become chargeable to the said Parish, and that one John Dunn a Surgeon in the Abby churchyard in the city of Bath had carnal knowledge of her body sometime in or about the beginning of the month of April last past at the house of one Mr Rich, a Mason in Kings Mead in the city of Bath aforesaid in a room one pair of stairs backwards in the said house and several times afterwards at the same house at which or one which times he begot on her body the said Male bastard child, and that he the said John Dunn is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the 29th of January 1739 before Val Hilder, William Miller.
