Examination Text | Mary Wells aged 40 years lodging at the Black Horse in Dirty Lane in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields where (and in Phenix Alley in the Parish aforesaid) she hath lodged almost five years saith she never was married, that she was bound an apprentice by indenture for five years to Mrs Rogers a Mantua Maker who then lodged at the sign of the Leg the corner of Salisbury Street in the said Parish whom she there served about two years, and then her mistress married and her husband and she removed into St Martin's Street and she with them and there served about one year more, that then her said master and mistress removed into St Martin's Lane and lodged at one Mr Lemoigne's, a Leather Sellerr and there served some short time and then from thence removed into one Mr Briggs's the corner of Half Moon Street were she served a year or thereabouts, and then her term expired since which she hath not kept any house rented 10 pounds per ann. paid any parish taxes or been a yearly hired servant.
