Examination TextHenry Layng aged 34 years lodging at Mrs Hudson's at Chandler's in Drury Lane in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields upon his oath saith that about 18 years ago he was bound an apprentice by indenture to one Mr Desberry a Barber and Peruke Maker who then lived in that part of Little St Martin's Lane which is in the Parish of St Anne Westminster to whom he served there six years and three months, and then was turned over to one Mr Pujolas who then lived in that part of Great Newport Street which is in the parish of St Martin in the Fields with whom he served his time out, that he never kept house rented 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes or was a year hired servant in any one place for the space of one whole year before his intermarriage, and further that about five years ago he was married at the Fleet London to his present wife Frances by whom he hath two children now living (to wit) Elizabeth aged upwards of four years and Robert aged near 12 months now with this Examinant. Sworn this 23rd Day of October 1746 before James Fraser.
