The Contractor for keeping the Carriage way of
the Strand
in repair attending and informing [..]
Board that during the last Quarter he made use of
a very large Quantity of New Materials in Repairing
the same on which the Duty of £20: P Cent. attached
from Midsumer last pursuant to the Act of Parliament
lately passed and the Inspector being examined
thereto and ascertaining that a great many Tons
of New Stone have been used therein It was
therefore proposed that £2..10s-Per Quarter for the
Remainder of the Contract (being Two years) be
allowed Mr. Meredith as a Compensation for the
said Duty of £20: Per Centum, which this Committee
esteem to be very beneficial to this Parish Mr.
Meredith being present agreed to the acceptance
thereof in full of such Duty
