Informations taken this fourteenth
day of March 1785 at the Parish of
St. Margaret within the Liberty of
Westmr . in the County of Midsex upon
on Inquisition touching the death
of Thomas James< no role > lying dead in the
said Parish Liberty and County

Henry Weblin< no role > of Tavistock Arms Great
Russel Street Bloomsbury Smith on his Oath
saith That Yesterday Morning a little before
Eight o'Clock this Disponent was going through
St. James's Park and standing on the outside
of the Iron Rails at the End of the Canal
next the Parade, he saw Thomas James< no role >
the Deced and another young Man Skirting
upon the Canal and going from theat End
of the Canal having hold of each others
Hands, That they Skirted together almost
to the Middle of the Canal where the See was
brother, and both fell into the Water,
Says that heand Wran towards the Deced
(and William Atkins< no role > threw a Rope several
times times to the other Person who had hold
of the Iee, and catched hold of the Rope
and was Saved). but Deced never came up
as Dept. was informed Says that they
Dragged and at last get the Deced out
after having been in the Water about an
hour, but Deced appeared to be dead
Says that the Deced was carried to the
Sign of the Robin Hood< no role > in Duke Street in
the Parish of St. Margaret Westmr . where
every means were used for his Recovery
but in vain, and Dept. believes that the
Deced's death was Accidental
