Copy of Informations taken before the Coroner the
Third day of April 1782 at the Parish of St. Geroge
Hanover Square on View of the Body of James Edwards< no role > ,

Walter Longden< no role > of Union Court Hotton Garden on his
Oath saith that he yesterday drove a Hackney Coach for
Mr. Smith a Hackney Man in George Yard Hatton Street
in the Parish of St. Andrew Holborn , That about half hour
after One o'Clock he was driving his Coach with a Gentleman
in it, out of St James's Street into Bennet Street in the
Parish of St. George Hanover Square Says that James Edwards< no role >
the Deced was then driving a Cart drawn by the three Horses
and loaded with Coals into Bennet Street before this Dept.
in the Center of the Street, Says that Earl Verney's Coachman
was then driving his Lordship in a Chariot in Bennet
Street towards the Deced's Cart. That the Chariot was on
the wrong side of the Street and the Coachman driving the
Horses on a brisk Trot, Says that he Hallowed to the
Coachman, why he did not keep on the right side of the
Way, Says that he crossed and immediately the Shoulder
of the Near Horse in the Chariot forced the Deced to the
Ground just before the Near Wheel of his loaded Cart which
immediately passed over the Deced's Belly and broke his
right Arm, Says that the Deced was so much hurt that
he could not move himself nor speak, Says that he is not
sure that here was room for the Coachman to drive on
the right side of the Street by the Deced's Cart, That the
Coachman drove on after this Dept. did him go to the right side,
but stopp'd the Horses as soon as he possibly could after the Deced was
down Says that he does not believe that the Coachman had any
Intention to do the Deced Injury but that it was Accidental,
and thinks that the Coachman might have been more
careful in driving.
