Informations taken this Fifth day of september
1776 at the Parish of St. John the Evangelist as him the
Liberty of Westmr . in the County of Middlesex upon an
Inquisition touching the death of a Man unknown
lying [..] d in the said Parish Liberty and County

William Allam< no role > of Great Peter Street in the Parish of St. John
the Evangelist Westmr. Cowkeeper on his Oath saith, That he
was this morning making Hay with several of his
workmen in a Field adjoining to TothillFields in the
Parish of St. John the Evangelist Westmr. Says that he rested
himself against a Free there by the said of an open
Ditch and in the Water there saw a Bit of Rag or cloth
Floting, Says that with his Rate he pulled up some
More of the cloths, and then saw the Deced's face
Says that he called the People out of the Field and
like was called Mr. Rickets the Gardener 's Servant
who all saw the Deced, andDeptthe Men in Depts
presence pulled the Deced out of th Ditch Says that
the Deced was dead and appeared to have been Drowned
some days and Dept. observed no Marks violence
upon the Body of the Deced.

Verdict


That on the 5th. day of Septr. 1776 the Man unknown was
found Drowned & Suffocated in a Ditch in the Parish of
St.John the Evangelist Westmr. That no Mark of Violence
appear upon the Body, but how he became Drowned no
Order thereof doth appear to the Jurors.
