An Inquisition Indented, taken for our Sovereign Lord the
King, at the Parish of Saint Margaret
within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of the Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster ,
in the County of Middlesex , the Third day of January in the Fifteenth Year
of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain,
France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and so forth, before Thomas Prickard< no role > , Gentleman,
Coroner of our Said Lord the King for the Said City and Liberty, on View of the Body of
Joseph Belshaw< no role > then and there lying dead, upon the Oath of John
Cartwright
< no role > , William Ferry< no role > , Peter Dun< no role > , George Cummins< no role > , George Grieves< no role > ,
James Clalk< no role > , Henry Pitkin< no role > , John Timbury< no role > , Thomas Hitchings< no role > , William Allen< no role > ,
William Forrester< no role > and John Leeson< no role > , good and lawful Men of the Said Liberty, duly
chosen, who being then and there duly Sworn and charged to enquire for our Said Lord the
King, when, how, and by what Means the said Joseph Belshaw came to
h is Death, do upon their Oath Say, That John Boyce< no role > late of the Parish of Saint
John the Evangelist within the Liberty and County aforesaid Laborer
on the First day of January in the Year aforesaid at the said Parish of
Saint John the Evangelist within the Liberty and County aforesaid
with his right Hand him the said Joseph Belshaw in and upon the
left side of his Head did strike, and thereby Casually and by Misfortune
and against the Will of him the said John Boyce< no role > did then and there give unto
the said Joseph Belshaw one mortal Bruise in and upon the left side
of the Head below the left of him the said Joseph Belshaw, of which
said mortal Bruise he the said Joseph Belshaw then and there died.
and so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid [..] that the
said John Boyce< no role > him the said Joseph Belshaw in Manner and by
the Means aforesaid Casually and by Misfortune and against the will
of him the said John Boyce< no role > did kill and slay. but what rods on Chattels
the said John Boyce< no role > had at the time of the Killing and Haning by
Misfortune as aforesaid the said Jurors know not. In Witness
whereof as well the said Coroner, as the said John Cartwright< no role >
Foreman of the said Jurors, on the behalf of himself and the rest
of his Fellows in their presence, have to this Inquisition set their
Hands and Seals the Day Year and Place first above written
