James Vesty< no role > of little Abery Row Laborer on his Oath
saith, that he Works with Mr. Tibbs at the Turpentine
Warehouse on Mill Bank, That he was coming out of
the Yard one Thursday Night last at Ten o'Clock, along
with James Tagg< no role > , when he was informed by Mrs. Maybank
the Wife of Mrs. Maybank Foreman to Mr. Tibbs, that a Man
was just drowned in the River Thomas, near that place who had called out
for Assistance and at last said it no one can help me the
Lord help may Says that Yesterday about Eight o'Clock in
the Morning Mr. Cook came into the Yard and said that
the Drowned Man was then to be seen, upon which
this Dept. Wm. Redman< no role > & Thomas Roberts< no role > went out and
saw the Deced stocking in the Mud up to the waist
the Tide being then down, & about low Water, Says that
with some Difficulty they pulled him out of the Mind
and got him, to the Shore in the Parish of St. George
Hanover Square , the Deced having no Shoes on
Says that the Deced Coat Pockets were Searched, and that
they found in them four large Keystwo& a Handkerchief
That he took out a pair of Silver Knee Buckles out of
the Deced's Breeches Knees, and that they found a
Cane in the Mud close to the Deced & under his first Says that the
Deced was well Dressed and did not appear to be
long Drowned and that he saw no Marks of violence
upon the Deced.

William Mathews< no role > belonging to the Chelsea Water
works on his Oath saith That on Thursday Evening last
Dept. was at the Sign of the Marquits of Granby near Chelsea
Bridge when the Deced come in there about a quarter
before six o'Clock, and called for a Pint of Bear, which he
drank, then took some half pence out of his Pocket and
paid for it, and went away about six o'Clock the Deced then
appearing to be very Sober.
